That quote comes from a story in the March 2013 Atlantic called “Anthropology Inc.” that seems to not be on the Internet.

As we take a look at your cultural probes, we’ll be making sense of them by first watching a segment from Merchants of Cool (on how MTV is using ethnography to understand and target its teenage audience), reading an article about how Disney does the same thing, and finally looking at James Mollison’s “Where Children Sleep” to understand what anthropologists actually learn from this type of research.
